Attractions
WAT TRAIMIT (The Golden Buddha Temple)
houses the world’s largest gold buddha image weighing 5,500
kg, presumably 700 or 800 years old.
WAT PHO (The Reclining Buddha Temple)
founded in 16th century, is the oldest and biggest temple in the
city. It is well known for its huge reclining buddha, 46 m.long
and 15 m high. WAT PHO also houses King Rama I’s relics which
are enshrined in The Principle Buddha of the chapel.
WAT ARUN (Temple of Down) is attractive
in its striking prangs (a kind of stupa) which are decorated with
millions of pieces of Chinese porcelain.
WAT BENCHAMABOPHIT (THE MARBLE TEMPLE)
where King Rama IV‘s relies are enshrined is one of the modern
works of Thai religious architecture. It is famous for its main
chapel built in White Carara Italian marble to house a replica of
Thailand’s most beautiful Buddha image, Phra Phuttachinarat.
