Chiang Rai
is located at the northerntip of Thailand, bordering Myanmar (Burma)
on the north and Loas on the east. More than three quarters of the
area are beautiful mountains, founded in 1262 by King Mengrai, Chiang
Rai is among the oldest towns of Thailand.
Attractions
Phra That Doi Tung, a temple containing
the Lord of Buddha’s relic on the top of the 1,364 m. Doi
Tung is the most important place of worship for Buddhists in the
North, there, on a clear day, one can have a breathtaking panorama
view of the border areas. Nowadays, this area is also famous for
one kind of the coffee which one can try at the outlets all over
the country , called “Doi Tung Coffee”
Golden Triangle is the world famous
place where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Loas meet.
Mae Sai on Burmese Border, the northern-most
town of Thailand, is frequently visited by both Thai and foreign
tourists, who come to see the sights and to buy jade and other precious
stones produced in Myanmar.
Rafting Down the Mae Kok the 130- km-long
Mae Kok is reputed as among the most scenic and unspoiled rivers
still existing in Thailand.
